FRUIT CARE (VELVET TAMARIND)


VELVET TAMARIND Popularly known as icheku or nkwa in Igbo, Yoruba’s called it Awin while in Hausa land is known as Tsamiyar kurm.  The black velvet tamarind fruit is mostly found in the forest during raining season.
 It has smooth grayish and dark green glossy leaves and a whitish flower which bears densely velvet black fruit that are less circular and flattened and sweet.
It contains potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, sodium, iron and fiber.

      -           Treats ulcer and prevents hypertension.
      -         They lower blood cholesterol.
      -          They fight against cold infections.
      -         Cure tooth ache and malaria.
      -         Relieves menstrual cramp and stops diarrhoea.

The stem contains saponin which adds cleaning effect to the teeth and  is used as indigenous tooth brush or chewing stick.
