FRUIT CARE (BUSH PEAR/BUTTER FRUIT)


African pear or Bush pear is usually found in a number of African countries. Nigerians always eat it with corn. The oval shaped fruit has its flesh in butter form when roasted or boiled. In Igbo land, it is known as (Ube).
Other names include bush pear and butter-fruit. The African pear tree is used by traditionalists for producing herbal medicines, which are used for treating several health disorders such as fever, wounds, dysentery, sores and skin diseases.
It was revealed that the extracts of this fruit contains antioxidizing, diuretic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-hypertensive, anti sickle-cell and anti-spasmodic properties.

    -         They have high calcium content, that supply the basic requirements needed  for the growth and maintenance of healthy teeth including bones.
     -         They prevent skin irritation because of the oil which they contain.
     -         They contain linoleic acid, that is vital polyunsaturated fatty acids which help to prevent vascular heart diseases.   

     -         They are a source of vitamins C and E  which are antioxidative in nature. These vitamins help in maintaining glowing and healthy skin as well as slowing down the aging process.
-         They  prevent women from getting postmenopausal breast cancer. This is as a result of its anti-cancerous properties.
-         They are also rich in niacin, thiamine, magnesium, pantothenate folate, potassium, calcium, amino acids, fiber, phosphorus, riboflavin, carbohydrates and vitamin B6.
You can either soak the pear (ube) in hot water, roast it in charcoal or even pop it into your mouth for few minutes and the fleshy buttery pulp gets soften and ready for consumption.
