Semolina,
Amala, Fufu, Tuwo Masara and Tuwo Shinkafa are popular bolus meals eaten with
different soups.
These bolus meals are available in form of powder/flour and quite easy to prepare once you have the flour ready. From time to time, you can substitute any of them with wheat flour or wheat meal whenever possible.
How to prepare Semolina, Fufu, Amala, Tuwo Shinkafa and Tuwo Masara, using their powder/ flour: There two methods to achieve this. Ingredients
- 300g Semolina flour, wheat flour or fufu flour etc
- 500ml hot water (more or less)

- 300g Semolina flour, wheat flour or fufu flour etc
- 500ml hot water (more or less)
- Pour water in a pot,
add 3/4 of the semo flour or fufu flour into the pot of water.
- Heat up the pot and
start stirring the semo or fufu, to prevent burning at the bottom.
- As the semo cooks, you'll begin to perceive the aroma and
notice that the consistency might be a bit light, then gradually add the
remaining flour and continue stirring until you get a thicker consistency. Put off the heat, scoop
out and serve with any choice of soup.
METHOD II Preparation
- Put some water to boil, until bubbling. Then scoop out a
little of the hot water and set aside.
- Pour in some of the flour and start stirring real
hard.
- If the mixture is watery, add more flour and continue
stirring until smooth and hard (or as you want the consistency).
- After about 1 minute, gradually add a little of the hot
water you had set aside, cover the pot and leave to boil for 1 minute, to cook
the flour completely and remove any raw taste.
This process can also be used for making any other bolus or swallow meals made from flour, such as pounded yam(from yam flour) rice fufu, corn fufu, oat meal and a lot more .
Serve with any choice of soup.
