PLANTAIN RECIPES

Plantain is one of the foods that you can never be bored with in the kitchen. It can be eaten ripe, unripe  or over-ripe. Plantain has many ways of eating it. You can eat it boiled, cooked, fried, or roasted/grilled. When fried, it is used as a major side dish for rice. Fried plantain can be found on the breakfast table in most homes. The following are the most common plantain recipes.
 BOILED PLANTAIN
This is the easiest plantain recipe to prepare. If you are just home from work and you have either ripe or unripe plantain in your pantry and some palm oil, then in about 15- 20 mins (depending on your stove's heating capacity), you have a quick meal on your table. This dish is usually eaten with pepper sauce. But if you do not have pepper, don’t mind using palm oil and salt.

Ingredients

  • Palm Oil
  • Ripe / Unripe Plantain: as many pieces as you can eat!
  • Pepper
  • Salt (Optional)
  • Onions

Note on the ingredients

If you’re using ripe plantain, ensure that the water will be little, excess water will make it to be watery when done.

Cooking Directions

1.     Wash the plantain and cut each fruit into two or three pieces depending on how big the fruits are.
2.     Put in a pot, add some water and set to cook.
3.     Then chop the onions, fresh or dried pepper depend the one you like but i prefer fresh pepper it makes you get the real taste.
4.     Heat some oil, pour in a plate and add the chopped onions and  pepper. Add salt to taste.
5.     Cook the plantain till done, add some salt to your taste and allow to simmer for a few more minutes. If it ripe plantains, ensure to watch the cooking closely because it will get done quicker than unripe plantain.
6.     When the boiled plantain is ready to be served. Peel off and start eating.
