Locust bean, commonly known as a local seasoning or condiment used in preparing soups and stews. In Igboland it is known as 'ogiri'; to Yorubas, it is iru, while Hausas know it as dawadawa. It is a popular seasoning. The locust bean, also known as carob, is quite popular in West Africa with the botanical name as Parkia biglobosa.
